Stock

|
A share of stock represents one share of ownership of a company. There are different classes, such as common or preferred, which hold varying levels of power and may only be available to certain individuals. Shares of stock change in value over time. Investors try to profit from that change by buying the shares while they are cheap and selling them after they increase in value. The problem is that a stock's value can decrease just as easily resulting in capital loss.
